Festival Programme

The programme for the 2016 Festival is crammed with many exciting and innovative projects as usual. We are delighted this year the bring the very exciting, world speed record Bloodhound project to Rotherham. This global project will engage our children and young people in the world of science, technology, engineering and maths. As in every year all the festival acitivities will celebrate our children's achievements over the year and will also inspire them to continue to progress next year and beyond. The programme incorporates a range of curriculum subjects, it adds creativity to learning and achievement and recognises the talents of our children and young people.

If you would like to participate in any of our events then please contact Fiona Radford, Trish Sharp or Julie Garrow via telephone or the contact form on the Contact Us page.

STEM and The Bloodhound Project

You are invited to experience the BLOODHOUND project as part of this year’s Children’s Festival.

This is a unique opportunity for hundreds of children in Rotherham to witness this global engineering project and we are proud that the BLOODHOUND and Rolls Royce are working with us.

The BLOODHOUND project is using a 1000mph world land speed record in an attempt to inspire the next generation about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  It has three objectives:

1.       Inspire the next generation about STEM

2.       Share an iconic research and development programme with a global audience

3.       Set a new World Land Speed Record of 1000 mph.

The BLOODHOUND project will be in Rotherham from Monday 13th June through to Saturday 18th June.  There will be opportunities for families and the public to visit over the weekends but during the week the project is exclusively available, free of charge for schools subscribing to the School Improvement Service (£100 fee for non-subscribers), for children and young people in Rotherham’s Schools.

BLOODHOUND are proposing running the week as an ‘Air Rocket car Challenge’.  Groups will be set the challenge in the morning and work in teams to design, build and test cars over the day with semi-finals and then the finals in the afternoon.  There will be competition winners each day who will get their name on the tail Fin of the actual car taking part in the World Land Speed record.  During the day, each group will also go through the Tour and Explore workshops around the Car as well as other STEM related activities.

We expect this to be a very exciting and popular addition to the Children’s Festival and ask that you let us know by Friday 27th May if your school wishes to send children and students to experience the project.  A maximum of 30 places per school are available and we are allocating days to Learning Communities, as below:

The day will run from 9:30 until 3pm at MAGNA.  Further details about the BLOODHOUND project are available at http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/project
